The People in Your Neighborhood

Ok, so we've covered the fact(s) that we've got new songs, new shows, and a new record on the way. Once we can let you know more about that we will, but in the meantime -- here's a little snippit of the recording featuring some of our best friends in sing-along fashion.

You can stream/download it here.

(You thought I was kidding, huh?)

Just consider it a little Easter Egg from us to you all -- only a month or so early. See if you can name all the people in our neighborhood (there's a hint or 3 in the tags below).

And here's another pic of that fateful day (courtesy of Jeff Grey):

Word! See you in March!

MRR Review of the Demo 7"

It’s time like this that make me wish Carl Cordova was still here at MRR - he would know exactly with youth crew bands to compare this to, getting all the spirit of ’88 references in the right places, dotting every “i” and (wait for it) crossing every “x”. But Carl’s not here anymore, so I’ll have to push on and do my best. Youth crew isn’t really my thing - I’ve never cared for YOUTH OF TODAY, BOLD leaves me wanting, and GORILLA BISCUITS puts me to sleep. That said, I like RIGHT IDEA. I booked a show for them in Gilman and they were energetic, enthusiastic, and fucking tight, not to mention being stand-up fellows. Maybe it’s a Clevo thing (who doesn’t love CONFRONT and MEANSTREAK?), but I like their demo a lot. This 7” is a repress of said demo, so if you’re a youth crew fanatic who missed out on the tape, o if you worship at the altar of vinyl, then pick it up like it was loose change.

Slapshot and how life works...

Reggie Dunlop: It's their rink, it's their ice, and it's their fuckin' town. But tonight we got our fans with us!
[other players cheer]
Reggie Dunlop: They spent their own dough to get here, and they came here to see us! All right, let's show 'em what we got, guys! Get out there on the ice and let 'em know you're there. Get that fuckin' stick in their side. Let 'em know you're there! Get that lumber in his teeth. Let 'em know you're there!

It's good to have people in your corner. It's good to have a laundry list that you drag through your mind every time you try to think about who has helped you do a damn thing. Thanks guys, thanks gals. I can't wait for the new record to drop.

E to the N to the Mother Fuckin' D-Point Oh.

Ok, so this band contains a bunch of whining little man-boys of questionable sexual preference. They've been the butt of jokes, the cause of a scene skirmish or 2, and blasphemous in the name of our F band to follow (not like I'm giving away anything here -- as if there was any doubt). Kids used to cry at their shows. Seriously. Girls would crowd the stage, and the fellas would play sans-shoes.

And if that's not enough, on more than one occasion they burned their bridges with Cleveland hardcore*

* The story was that Rob Pennington said that Endpoint would never ever do a reunion. That is, unless One Life Crew was playing. Only then would these boys reunite -- and not to share the stage with the Clevo str-hate edgers -- they would play at a competing show to make sure there would be more tonnage on stage than in the crowd at the OLC show.

So how does Catharsis then outstage the OG purveyors of Vegan Edge or the melodic saviors of a scene? Longevity, purpose, and message. This record is more than significant -- it's urgent, hard, catchy, and sing-along-able. Excuse the horrible guitar tone, and recognize more chug and quick parts (even a wailing solo or 2). Call and response vocals, intense imagery and a pissed off attitude. Forget scene politics: Endpoint introduced the body-politic into the hardcore scene. This was important. This is still an important record.

Bonus points for the photo in the insert of the reissue showcasing Pat McClimons rocking a handmade "Erba Rulz" t-shirt (there's a hooded version visable on a crowd member in the cover shot -- see above). Oh, that and the OG Raw Deal T-shirt Rob Point was wearing at the actual factual reunion (which incidentally had nothing to do with OLC) set at the "last" BTGOG show.

Oh, and don't forget they also made the little record called In a Time of Hate at a small studio called Mars, with a certain crazy man named Bill Korecky. The stories he and Erba tell of Duncan and Rob are "entertaining" (to say the least).

Mad Minds Rule

Mad Minds finished up their new 7" last night, and a couple of Right Idea-ers were in attendance at Negative Space to help spit shine them backing vocals. Make sure to follow up with the band and check out everyone's friend Scotty's label: Leave 'Em Records, which will be releasing the record as soon as they get art, etc done.

Special thanks again to Mike Carlson -- aka Mike Mad Minds -- for coming along to California with us, spending his birthday at Dodger Stadium, and sleeping with his mouth open.

It's Nice To Have Friends (Redex)

FOTB (friend of the band) Ed just started up an online counterpart to his print 'zine called Rated X and named it Sound And Fury. Sound and Fury is a pretty rad dump to add to your daily blog check-em-outs for, as he puts it:
I hope to provide lots of reasons to come back in the future.
Why another blog? Because I want a way to make hard to find, out of print, live, demo, etc. items available to people like me, who love this kind of music.
What kind of music is that? I love all kinds of music but the kinds I love best is hardcore and punk. I love NYHC, late 80's straight edge music, early 80's punk and lots of modern stuff too. I'm not into that 'heavy hardcore' junk though, so there won't be any of that [at Sound and Fury].
Thanks again to Ed for his hard work and for being a valued FOTB, who knows -- maybe there'll even be a RIGHT IDEA rarities entry from him in the future?

You never can tell.

Blind Justice

The year 1997 should be remembered for 2 things to hardcore kids in Cleveland, Ohio: The Rebirth of Hardcore; and The Cleveland Indians Baseball Club. David Justice was hands down one of the best baseball players I've ever seen in my life -- standing out among a lineup of future HOFers: Ramirez, Hershiser, Alomar, Giles, Thome, Colon and a few guys who played like HOFers that year: Matt Williams, Jaret Wright, and Charlie Nagy. Not to mention he was in the top 5 in MVP voting 5 times over in his injury shortened career -- '97 stood out, with post-season heroics aplenty. Oh yeah, and he had a girl with him while he was here, but I forgot her name.

Not to mention a certain member of One Life Crew insisting we (Clevo Kids) all wear "JUSTICE 33" player t's. I'm not making this up. But they really did look "hard." Maybe not as hard as that "X" hat, but I'm sure you understand what I'm saying.

ALDS Fever!

No, it's not some fancy new designer STD or anything. The Tribe has clinched the AL Central . . . We're certain it's no coincidence that it coincides with the return of the Cleveland Youth Crew -- it's the right idea! Did I mention I've got tickets?

Well, I've got tickets.

Go Tribe!
