A Time We'll Remember take three

So the fact that Sunny S. at Hate5six.com continues to film hardcore and put it up in quality videos--for FREE--is pretty awesome. Think of how awesome kids will find it in 2020 when they want to see (new) old Floorpunch sets or sets by Betrayed or Verse or any number of bands that may carry well into the next decade. Kids will be moshing in their room to the Burning Fight sets, the This is Hardcore fest and many NJ/Philly shows in between!

Sunny hooked it up in full force at A Time We'll Remember fest, grabbing our ugly mugs on film again with the rest of the great bands that made the trek to play some hardcore.

Floorpunch: Division One Champs/Goal Line Stand (Yeah it's two records, but still...)

The fact that Right Idea's demo was first distributed at the FP reunion says a lot.  Intro.  Changes.  Ya know what I mean?  Millin and Hesser have stories that go beyond my time, maybe they'll post an FP part II?

The tentative runner-up is Farside's The Monroe Doctrine:

The Monroe Doctrine was post-hardcore when people played guitars and hooks and sang about normal shit rather than becoming fixated on aesthetics and sub-clicks like today's post-hardcore morphologies.  Millin should have a story or two on this as well.  My only story is this: great fucking record.

Honorable mention includes Face to Face's Don't Turn Away, Faded Grey's A Quiet Time of Desperation, Fugazi's 13 Songs, The FU's Kill for Christ, From Ashes Rise's Nightmares, Fastbreak's Don't Stop Trying, Final Plan's Dead End Nights, Fired Up's When the Lights Go Out, The First Step's What We Know.  Chuck says lil flip or Freddie Madball's rap project?

E to the N to the Mother Fuckin' D-Point Oh.

Ok, so this band contains a bunch of whining little man-boys of questionable sexual preference. They've been the butt of jokes, the cause of a scene skirmish or 2, and blasphemous in the name of our F band to follow (not like I'm giving away anything here -- as if there was any doubt). Kids used to cry at their shows. Seriously. Girls would crowd the stage, and the fellas would play sans-shoes.

And if that's not enough, on more than one occasion they burned their bridges with Cleveland hardcore*

* The story was that Rob Pennington said that Endpoint would never ever do a reunion. That is, unless One Life Crew was playing. Only then would these boys reunite -- and not to share the stage with the Clevo str-hate edgers -- they would play at a competing show to make sure there would be more tonnage on stage than in the crowd at the OLC show.

So how does Catharsis then outstage the OG purveyors of Vegan Edge or the melodic saviors of a scene? Longevity, purpose, and message. This record is more than significant -- it's urgent, hard, catchy, and sing-along-able. Excuse the horrible guitar tone, and recognize more chug and quick parts (even a wailing solo or 2). Call and response vocals, intense imagery and a pissed off attitude. Forget scene politics: Endpoint introduced the body-politic into the hardcore scene. This was important. This is still an important record.

Bonus points for the photo in the insert of the reissue showcasing Pat McClimons rocking a handmade "Erba Rulz" t-shirt (there's a hooded version visable on a crowd member in the cover shot -- see above). Oh, that and the OG Raw Deal T-shirt Rob Point was wearing at the actual factual reunion (which incidentally had nothing to do with OLC) set at the "last" BTGOG show.

Oh, and don't forget they also made the little record called In a Time of Hate at a small studio called Mars, with a certain crazy man named Bill Korecky. The stories he and Erba tell of Duncan and Rob are "entertaining" (to say the least).

Demos

If anyone is interested in demos we still have some leftover from the FLOORPUNCH show in Philly where they made their debut. The demo is $3 -- and it's a 5 song cassette of straightforward hardcore with a crew tip. I'll try to review the Floorpunch show when I have more time (if Chuck doesn't beat me to it).

Also, be sure to check out BALANCE -- they are a new edge band from Sweden with a solid demo. Got the opportunity to meet Johan at the show and can tell these guys are going places.

We have been discussing a few ideas here and there about shirts, layouts, and logos. Everyone is doing their part to contribute. There's even rumor of Mishic drawings, can't wait. I drew some ideas up last night and sent them for review (I'd post them but that's not the RIGHT IDEA).

You'll have to get your own tickets and make the journey to Philly in late October to get yours.

A Time We'll Remember . . .

As Golden As the 7"

One of my favorite Floorpunch shows was at GWSU in early '98. The show was with such other bands as The Trust, Fastbreak, GCF (first show), I think In My Eyes, Longshot (best set ever and I missed it! Ferkler fronted bands rule), Proclamation and some others. It took Mishic 20 minutes to get his X's right in the car before we went in. The distro at this show was insane! I had to turn down a Judge LP on green for $15 'cause I had spent so much money on the explosion of new rad recs of the time. Not to mention I knew Double Decker (Allentown, PA's best record store) would, of course, be a stop on the way home. So many kids were diving and singing along for every song, but unfortunately there was a fight during the Trust's set and security threatened to shut the show down -- which would have sucked. Matters cooled and it was time for the mighty FP to take the stage. As if their set wasn't insane enough, (even during the cover off of UC's Screaming For Change, security is on edge) that's when Porter decides to yell "Fuck this place up," followed quickly by a quiet "just kidding." Well, instantly the dudes from Barfight and VA knew what to do; and in the midst of amps unplugged and lights shut off you had to keep an eye out for flying ceiling tiles and kids soaring thru the air in insanely awesome stagedive fashion. After this show I became hooked on seeing FP as much as I could no matter where they were in the country. I was a 'travelling fool' as Porter labeled it. Now once again I will make the trek to see the best band from that era.

One other time we slowed all the songs down to have like rap beats ala. funky drummer again kids unhappy... One show I played Tetris the whole set while sitting... Guess what? Intro/Changes

By now you've heard about the FLOORPUNCH reunion. We can't wait, it'll be a chance for us all to relive a few great memories, hang out with some great friends, and try to help out another. We all love Robby Redcheeks -- and he's become such a part of every scene, and Cleveland's no exception -- from riding along with OLC, setting up shows for COMMITTED, to still keeping up and taking pics for CHEAP TRAGEDIES -- he's always bent over backwards for the Cleveland Core.
So we're all planning on heading out to the show at the end of October, and Jeff's informed me it'll be one of the first opportunities you'll have to pick up a copy of the demo in person . . . here's the transcript:
